Why is dental care important?

Maintaining your pets dental health is an integral aspect of ensuring optimal health, and reduces the risk of developing; broken teeth, periodontal disease, abscesses and allows for the appropriate monitoring of oral health and identification of lesions or abnormal growths.

At each Annual Health Check with us, we will examine your pets mouth and assess when a dental procedure is recommended.

What should I look out for?

Early signs of dental disease include, but are not limited to; your pet’s breath becoming worse, a reduced appetite or difficulty and pain when chewing, a buildup of plaque and calculus and inflamed gums.

It is important to note that your pet may not display any signs at all.

Our procedure

Under general anaesthesia, we conduct a comprehensive dental assessment. Our practice ensures a full examination of your pets teeth, from the external crown to the root through the use of probing and dental radiographs.

In the case where extractions are required, we perform surgical removal, excising the problem tooth whilst simultaneously administering pain relief through intravenous fluids for optimal comfort.

All patients will achieve cleaner and healthier teeth as we use an ultrasonic scaler to remove the build up of tartar and calculus that occurs naturally, followed by a thorough polish.
